What car would you enter in a long-distance road rally?

Gumball 3000, Gold Rush Rally, One Lap of America: those are a few road rallies that happen in different place, either domestic or international. Most drivers would choose high-end exotics like a McLaren P1, an Aventador or a Nyan Cat-themed 458 Spider. If you had a chance to enter one, what would it be?

Personally, I would go for the Volkswagen Golf R32, specifically the MkIV. Powerful VR6 engine + six-speed manual + Haldex 4WD + roomy hatchback = fun ensues! I would also choose the E30 M3. You know why.

So, Opponauts, what's your's?

Also, inb4miata!

In the US? Built R34 GTR because rarity, but still reasonibleness.

Ferrari FF because it's already pretty practical.

1500 HP Underground Racing TT Gallardo for insane highway pulls

TT E60 M5 Touring because you can hold all the shit you need and go very quick.

Dodge Viper (NOT SRT) with some ridiculous amount of power from mods for highway-speed burnouts

Ford GT because it's not insanely uncomfy or hard to drive.

Upgraded Mercedes S65 AMG because insane power and torque. The thing would have 1000 LB-FT of torque if it didn't need to be limited for the tranny.

Heavily modified 850CI or 850CSI because no one else would have one

Kinja'd!!!

E28 M5. It's gorgeous and amazing to drive, but still a sedan.

Kinja'd!!!

Mercedes Hammer Wagon

Kinja'd!!!

DeTomaso Pantera because impracticality and rarity. Bonus if you could shove a Coyote into it.

I would probably go for the larger engine of the car I have.

I'd want the 3.6 V6 4x4 Elegance Automatic (manual isn't available on the 3.6 V6).

It's incredibly comfortable yet responsive, loads of space I mean LOADS of space inside.

A great touring car.

Sure it's a big car but it's a big car with loads of power, comfort and refinement.

Any SRT vehicle, other than the Viper

A Trailblazer SS

CTS V-Sport

Kinja'd!!!

Pretty much any American car or SUV with a big powerful engine, these would be the top picks though.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel. It's big, roomy, comfortable, luxurious. At 30 MPG, it's 24 gallon tank gives is a 720 mile range. That means this thing can drive from LA to New York only stopping for fuel 4 times.

A Becker Jetvan. I'd be the co-driver and I wouldn't be of any help because I'd be watching TV and sleeping all the time.

W124 500E with a massive secondary tank, de-limiter and a 250D badge on the back.

Stretched Series II Land Rover built by two German Landy enthusiasts. Was originally going to have a 27-litre V12 out of a Spitfire but ze German road people said NEIN so instead it has a more run-of-the-mill Rover V8.

The only working prototype, since the whole operation got put on hold following the financial crisis... sad

E46 M3 CSL (either the real deal or clone) with either the E39 V8 swap or more preferably the E60's V10.

Large sedan FTW. Comfortable for those 12 hour days of cruising and also the performance during track stages.

ive contemplated this many times with a few friends. My suggestion (if money was no obstacle) would be an S65 AMG. Why you ask? You're not carving through long twisty roads and the majority of the time you do spend driving you're on a high volume highway. The long straights of the Midwest need something that has reasonable power. My S65 will be no ordinary one. Currently in my daily driver I have a passport escort 9500ix this is a must for any long trip on roads less traveled by you. It's save my ass multiple times, more than enough to count. A radar detector is not the only countermeasure I would have. My AMG will be fitted with laser and radar jammers in the front for maximum defense, a larger capacity fuel tank would be mounted in the massive trunk for the thirsty twin turbo V12. Last but not least I would put CB equipment inside for entertainment and awareness, with 2 4ft whipping antennas mounted on the trunk (for my pleasure haha) to be honest it will be similar to Alex Roy's e39 but without the police livery.

also this will have very few problems keeping pace with a lot of super/hyper cars of today, oh and one more thing it will be brabus tuned/modified. (But not the hideous body panels) so hoping for over 700hp and over 800ftlb of torque..

Ye', it's a big lug but drives great, reliable and will swallow up all the miles easily.

Sure it's no BMW M5 tourer or anything but the 3.6 V6 is no slouch either with 256bhp, 0-60 in 6.4secs, in naturally aspirated form with a top speed 155mph.
